FAQ

If your sprinkler is leaking, start by turning off the system at the sprinkler irrigation controller. Rotate the controller to the “off” position. If your sprinkler is still leaking after the controller is turned off, you need to shut off the water at the source. Find the sprinkler backflow device, either outside or in your basement, and turn the necessary valve(s) a quarter-turn so the handle is perpendicular with the pipe. Alternatively, you can also turn off the water supply at the main water supply shut-off valve found in your basement or garage.

The exact figure will vary from lawn to lawn depending on the unique conditions, but experts recommend watering your lawn once or twice a week with 1 to 1.5 inches of water each time. If you experience a rain event, adjust your watering accordingly.

While winterizing your sprinkler system is certainly necessary in some cooler climates, it is not a recommended practice in Texas. To store your system for the off-season, shut your water off at the back flow preventer and wrap it in a towel to keep it insulated. From there, depressurize the main line by operating a few different zones of your system. Finally, turn the controller to the “off” position.
